Motorcycle routes in the Czech Republic: where to start from Prague
Prague is a practical starting point for exploring Czechia by motorcycle. Within a few days, the landscape changes from river valleys and sandstone formations in the north to the forests of Šumava and the vineyards of South Moravia. The appeal is variety rather than a single famous pass.
Choose a direction
North and east: Follow the Elbe towards Děčín, then continue through Český ráj and the sandstone landscapes near Jičín. A longer ride can reach the Jeseníky Mountains. Allow time off the motorcycle for viewpoints and walking paths; the most interesting rock formations are not roadside attractions.
West and south: Křivoklát, Loket, Karlovy Vary and Plzeň combine country roads with historic towns. From Plzeň, a southern loop can pass Šumava and Český Krumlov before returning through central Bohemia.
South and Moravia: Litomyšl, the Moravian Karst, Mikulov and Podyjí offer a different rhythm: small towns, limestone country and borderland roads. Some attractions require parking and a walk, so daily mileage should leave room for stops.
How many days?
A weekend works for one region. Four to seven days allow a broader loop without filling each day with transit. If you rent a motorcycle from Tripola in Prague, remember that rentals of one to three days include 300 km per day (extra kilometres are €1 each); rentals of four days or more have unlimited mileage for the entire period. The limit is a rental condition, not a recommended daily riding distance.
Choose secondary roads where they suit your experience, but do not treat public roads as a track. Before departure, check weather, temporary roadworks, access rules in protected areas and parking at each stop. Three detailed guides give different ways to connect the places: natural landscapes, historic towns and winding asphalt roads. If you rent from us, the motorcycles are handed over in Prague.
