Castles and historic towns: a Czech motorcycle itinerary

The west and south of Czechia suit riders who want to spend as much time exploring towns as riding between them. This loop connects spa architecture, castles, brewery history and medieval streets. It works best with shorter riding days and enough time to park and walk.

Route outline

Prague → Karlovy Vary: Ride through the countryside around Křivoklát and Žatec. Loket, set above a bend in the Ohře River, is a worthwhile detour before Karlovy Vary.

Karlovy Vary → Plzeň: Continue through western Bohemia. Bečov nad Teplou provides a cultural stop on the way. In Plzeň, brewery visits should be planned after riding for the day; check current tour availability separately.

Plzeň → Český Krumlov: Head south through Šumava. The forest roads can be enjoyable, but conditions and permitted access vary. Český Krumlov's historic centre is largely pedestrian, so arrange parking outside it.

Český Krumlov → Kutná Hora: Hluboká nad Vltavou and the town square in Telč can break up the crossing. Their opening hours and access may determine how many stops fit comfortably in one day.

Kutná Hora → Prague: Visit Kutná Hora on foot before returning. Depending on time, the route can pass Český Šternberk, Konopiště or Karlštejn; trying to visit all of them fully would make the day rushed.

Use current maps for the final roads, check parking rules in historic centres and confirm access before travelling. A slower schedule gives you more time inside the towns that make this route worthwhile.
