Austria's historic towns and lakes: a motorcycle itinerary

This loop crosses several distinct parts of Austria: the Danube valley, the lake district, Styria and Burgenland. It is designed as an independent itinerary with time for museums, town walks and short stops away from the motorcycle. The suggested start and finish are Vienna.

Suggested stages

Vienna to Linz: Follow the Wachau area along the Danube, with a possible visit to Melk Abbey. Check which riverbank road suits your timing and where parking is permitted.

Linz to Salzburg: Enter the Salzkammergut via Gmunden, Bad Ischl or St. Wolfgang. Lakeside roads can be slow in peak season, so keep the day's cultural stops selective.

Salzburg to Leoben: Consider a route through the Hallstatt and Admont areas. Both attract visitors; confirm parking and opening hours if you intend to stop.

Leoben to Eisenstadt: Travel east through Styria toward Burgenland. Forchtenstein Castle and Eisenstadt give the stage its historic focus.

Eisenstadt to Vienna: A shorter final day can include Rust, Lake Neusiedl or the Carnuntum area before the city return.

This is not a fixed package, and no site is guaranteed to be open on the day you travel. Admission, accommodation and transport are yours to arrange; Tripola Motorrad hands over motorcycles in Prague only. The value of the route is the sequence of landscapes and towns, which can be shortened or extended to suit you.
