Aragón and Catalonia by motorcycle: monasteries, castles and towns

This route idea gives historic towns and monuments equal weight with riding. It runs inland from Barcelona toward Aragón before looping back through Catalonia. It is most useful to riders who prefer one or two substantial stops a day over collecting as many kilometres as possible.

Five practical stages

  1. Barcelona to Lleida: The walled town of Montblanc and Poblet Monastery form a strong first cultural theme. Check visitor hours and parking, then continue to Lleida and the Seu Vella area.
  2. Lleida to Zaragoza: Cross the Ebro basin. Belchite is a Civil War memorial site; visit respectfully and follow current access rules, which may include guided entry. Zaragoza is a worthwhile overnight stop for its riverfront and historic centre.
  3. Zaragoza to Sos del Rey Católico: The villages of Cinco Villas reward a shorter riding day. Leave time to explore Sos on foot rather than rushing through its narrow streets.
  4. Sos to Cardona: Head east toward Monzón and Cardona. Both offer castle-related stops, but a visit may need advance planning.
  5. Cardona to Barcelona: Vic and the Montseny area offer a different landscape on the return. Choose roads according to current conditions and your available time.

Some centres are pedestrian, steep or cobbled. Park legally outside restricted streets, then walk. Confirm monument opening hours and leave enough time to enjoy the smaller towns between longer riding stages.
